    Dismantle the House of Dynamite

Kathryn Bigelow once worked with the CIA to make a movie widely criticized for dishonestly promoting torture and glorifying killing (Zero Dark Thirty). (She has also explicitly advocated for war-making.) Now she has made a movie highlighting the danger of nuclear apocalypse (A House of Dynamite). I know which film I would prefer for you to see. It’s on Netflix. […]

  • Russia Bad America Good

    Russia Bad America Good

The demonization of Russia among Western journalists has gotten so perverse, if Vladimir Putin were to jump in an erupting volcano and rescue a family of four Americans, carrying them on his back hobbling along on the melted stumps of his legs to a hospital 50 miles away, the mainstream media in the U.S. would […]

  • The Badly Tarnished Nobel Peace Prize is Finally Awarded to a Group that Truly Deserves It

Hiroshima (left, which the US destroyed with the first atomic bomb ever used in war on Aug. 6, 1945, and Nagasaki, which the US destroyed three days later on Aug. 9 with the last atomic used in war so far. Putin and the Magic Multipolar Mountain

There was a whiff of Thomas Mann’s ‘The Magic Mountain’ at the 20th Valdai annual meeting this week at a hotel over the gorgeous heights of the Krasnaya Polyana, north-west of the picturesque resort Sochi. But instead of a deep dive into the lure and degeneracy of ideas in an introverted community in the Swiss […]

  • Trinity’s Shadow

I sit here in the silence of the awakening dawn’s stillness stunned by the realization that I exist.  I wonder why.  It is my birthday.  The first rays of the rising sun bleed crimson over the eastern hills as I imagine my birth. The house and my family sleep. Someday I will die and I […]

  • Sea Monsters Threaten the World With Their Tridents

Sometimes you wake up from a dream to realize it is telling you to pay close attention to the depth of its message, especially when it is linked to what you have been thinking about for days.  I have just come up from a dream in which I went down to the cellar of the […]

  • U.S. Nuclear-War Strategy

    U.S. Nuclear-War Strategy

America’s nuclear-war strategy is to win a nuclear war, not merely to deter one. This has been especially the case since 2006. But it did not start in 2006 to become that way. A 1981 PhD thesis by William C. Martel, at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, one of America’s leading universities, was titled […]
